Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya Memorial Scholarship

The Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya Memorial Scholarship honours the legacy of a Palestinian doctor who stood by his patients under siege. As head of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, he refused to abandon his hospital even as it was surrounded.

This scholarship preserves his memory by supporting future medical professionals who share his courage and his commitment to serving their communities in the face of injustice.

Questions

Do I have to be Palestinian to apply?

Not necessarily. The criterion is Palestinian descent or a proven commitment to Palestinian humanitarian causes. Documented service, advocacy or medical work counts.

I am studying outside Egypt. Am I eligible?

The published criterion says an accredited medical school in Egypt. If you are studying elsewhere, apply anyway and say so plainly in your statement — the committee would rather read your case than lose it to a form field.

What kind of evidence should I attach?

Whatever substantiates the service or connection you are describing — a letter from an organisation you volunteered with, records of medical or relief work, published advocacy. Where you have no paperwork, describe it honestly instead of overstating it.

What does this scholarship cover?

It is awarded at MeducateED’s discretion on need-based or merit-based grounds, and your decision email states what the award covers.

Does applying cost anything?

No. Applying for a MeducateED scholarship is free, and it always will be. If anyone asks you to pay a fee to apply, it is not us — tell us at info@meducateed.com.

How long does a decision take?

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis rather than in fixed rounds, so there is no single answer — but you will always be told the outcome by email, whether it is yes or no. If your circumstances change while you are waiting, write to us and we will update your file.

Can I apply for more than one scholarship?

Yes. The programmes recognise different things, and several students qualify for more than one. Apply for each separately so the committee sees the full picture for each; you will not be penalised for applying to more than one.

What happens to the documents I upload?

They are used only to assess your application. Scholarship application data — including academic records, financial circumstances and personal statements — is treated with heightened confidentiality under our Privacy Policy, and is retained for three years after the process concludes in case of a later application or appeal.

If I am not awarded one, can I apply again?

Yes. A decision applies to that application, not to you. Circumstances and academic records change, and re-applying later is welcome.
